Hundreds of trucks stranded at border as France bans traffic to Britain

Roads in the British county of Kent have been jammed with trucks unable to cross the border for several kilometres

The reason was the French government’s decision to ban any communication with the United Kingdom for at least 48 hours, where a new strain of the coronavirus has been discovered.

As News Front previously reported, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will hold a meeting over the border chaos that has emerged just days before the Brexit transition period ends.

Meanwhile, Kent Police are trying to allocate trucks on sections of the M20 motorway between the two junctions to avoid traffic jams. In addition, the Department for Transport says that up to 4,000 lorries will be deployed at Manston Airport in Kent County.

“Following the French government’s announcement that no passengers arriving from the UK will be accepted there for the next 48 hours, we are asking the public and especially carriers not to travel to Kent ports or other routes to France”, –  said UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps.

At the same time, the Road Haulage Association warned of the “devastating effect” of the ban on supply chains, which are already under pressure because of Brexit.
