The relevant document also states that the participants in the JCPOA “appreciated the prospect of a US return and stressed their willingness to jointly pick up the idea”
The foreign ministers of the countries participating in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear programme have expressed their full commitment to the agreement and its implementation. This was said in a joint statement issued on Monday by the foreign ministers of Russia, Germany, China, France, Britain and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy following a meeting held via video link.
“The parties to the JCPOA have reaffirmed their desire to preserve the agreement,” the document, which was released by the German Foreign Ministry’s press office, said. It noted that the ministers discussed the possibility of “full and effective implementation of the JCPOA by all parties” and “the need to overcome existing challenges in the implementation of nuclear non-proliferation commitments and the lifting of sanctions [against Iran].” The foreign ministers stressed the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in monitoring the implementation of the JCPOA, noting “the importance of continued cooperation with the IAEA.
“The ministers recalled that the JCPOA, approved by the UN Security Council under resolution 2231 (adopted in 2015), remains a critical element of the global nuclear non-proliferation architecture and an important achievement of multilateral diplomacy that contributes to regional and international security,” the document said. The foreign ministers again expressed regret over the US withdrawal from it. “They stressed that resolution 2231 [on the Iran deal, adopted by the Security Council in 2015] remains fully in force”, – the statement said.
“The ministers were unanimous in their view that dialogue must continue for the full implementation of the JCPOA by all parties,” the foreign ministers stressed. The document also said that the parties to the agreement “appreciated the prospect of the US returning to the JCPOA and stressed their willingness to work together to pick up the idea”.
