Attacks, imaginary and real
Now in the U.S. there is all the hype about alleged hackers (it is not yet clear who exactly they are talking about, Trump’s Republicans blame China, Democrats blame Russia) for hacking and stealing information from dozens of storage facilities in the U.S.
Were the attacks real? This question is practically insoluble, as only the US has access to the real information and the gentlemen suggest “take our word for it”. In this case, it is difficult to take your word for it, because the “attacks” happened precisely at the time when some American circles needed them most. Judge for yourself. The attacks came at a time.
When in the US political system, chaos and Trump does not stop fighting for the seat even after the electoral college meeting (always the point of the final end of any dispute, but not now), in the American economy a difficult process before a possible serious collapse, in the battle against the coronavirus another record sickness. Against this backdrop, American politics have recommended a war to divert public attention. But war is about money and sacrifice (and therefore negativity), while cybersecurity is quite a topic in which you can get the public’s attention for next to nothing and certainly without loss.
Fact number one. Trump has been extremely passive in responding to cyber attacks, lazily blaming China (traditionally) and taking no action to address the problem. At the same time, there is no room for doubt in the information field that there have been attacks (agencies are reporting on them) and there is only a discrepancy as to whether the attacks were Chinese (according to Trump) or Russian (according to Pompeo and Trump’s opponents).
Fact number two. The attack was carried out through Microsoft applications, i.e. those applications whose source code is fully owned by Microsoft’s mother corporation. This was reported by the corporation itself and actually named itself as a victim of the attack, showing a fair amount of activity.
Fact number three, the information that was allegedly stolen has so far not surfaced anywhere, has not manifested itself and whether it even existed at all raises substantial questions. The content of the stolen information has not been disclosed (apparently for reasons of state secrecy). Only the astronomical size of the stolen archives is named.
I believe that Microsoft`s awareness and an obviously poor timing of the attack, chosen by hackers, as well as the activity of this attack, its demonstrativeness and impudence, given the dozen of affected agencies (if it happened, of course), may indicate only that the attack itself and its “spin” were inspired. And inspired by Microsoft itself, one of the co-conspirators in getting Biden into the White House.
Microsoft, through known vulnerabilities, attacked the ministries information systems. At the same time providing a glimpse of the situation and pointing to the source – the Belarusian company’s software, which, in their opinion, should have automatically pointed to a Russian trace. Let me remind you that the Democrats are significantly more active in this case than the Republicans.
