Brussels newspaper talks about peculiarities of visiting Russia

The EU Reporter has published an article with tips for foreigners planning to visit Russia

“Russia, which occupies almost two continents, is full of surprises and wonders. Make sure you find what interests you, for example, European Russia, the Far East or the Urals”, –  notes the author of the article.

Travellers are advised to make sure that their first priority is getting a visa. From 2021, Russia will introduce electronic visas for entry, which will make traveling in the country much more accessible. The author of the article also advises to stock up on cash and exchange currency for rubles in advance.

The author stresses that respect in Russia is “of paramount importance”. According to him, one should speak “quietly and respectfully” and in Lenin’s mausoleum and churches “one should not stick one’s hands in one’s pockets”.

“Elderly people are highly respected in Russian society, so it’s possible that some grandmother in a headscarf will demand a seat in the metro. Just in case, agree, because no one will take your side in this argument”, –  the author advises.

He also recommends trying some traditional dishes. For example, vinaigrette, okroshka or pelmeni.
