Mexican president holds talks with Biden

The two sides reaffirmed a “commitment to work together” for the benefit of the two peoples

Mexican leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador held telephone talks with US President-elect Joseph Biden on Saturday. The Mexican President said this on his Twitter.

“From the city of Valladolid, Yucatan state, I spoke by telephone with US President-elect Joseph Biden”, –  the recording reads. – “We reaffirmed a commitment to work together for the good of our peoples and countries.”

On Tuesday, Lopez Obrador said he had sent a letter to Biden congratulating him on his election as US president. In the message, he also recalled a personal acquaintance some nine years ago and thanked the American politician for his stance on migrants from Mexico and the world.

Mexico is among the most important trading partners of the US. In 2019, trade between the two countries reached a record $614.5 billion.
