London emptied: residents flee virus-ridden city

Residents of the British capital are fleeing the city en masse amid a strict quarantine imposed there due to the spread of a new strain of the coronavirus

The strain of COVID-19 identified in the kingdom is spreading much faster, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has claimed. More than 60% of all new infections are attributable to the new strain. All this is pushing the authorities to impose extremely strict restrictions on London and parts of south-east England. The public reaction has not been long in coming.
As The Daily Mail reports, within minutes of Johnson’s announcement of the quarantine, Londoners began fleeing the city. Traffic jams of many kilometres formed on the streets of the capital and thousands of people gathered at airports and train stations, ignoring measures to distance themselves.

As of today, London is once again in lockdown. Because of this last evening, hours before the quarantine was imposed, people rushed to the shops in time to buy Christmas presents.

Since the pandemic began, 2 million cases have been reported in the UK. The country was the first to approve a vaccine from the US company Pfizer and the first to experience its side-effects.
