Hacker attack hits around 200 different entities around the world – Bloomberg

A massive cyberattack that hit US agencies has affected around two hundred different entities around the world. This opinion was expressed by Bloomberg agency, citing its sources and expert assessments

The agency’s sources believe the hackers “integrated malicious code into the software at the US company SolarWinds. More than 18,000 customers received this malware, leaving them vulnerable to further cyberattacks.

The investigation found that hackers took direct action to gain unauthorized access to the computer systems of at least 200 different entities. Among them were companies and government agencies, which ones were not specified.

“The motives of the hackers remain unknown, and it is unclear what exactly they found out or stole by infiltrating computer networks”, –  the material’s authors noted.

Earlier, it was reported that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI and the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Agency recorded a serious hacking attack on the federal government’s computer networks.

The incumbent US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the media had exaggerated the extent of what had happened. He disagreed with the claim by leading US media that Moscow may have been involved in the cyber attack. Instead, Trump made a suggestion that it could have been Beijing.

“Russia, Russia, Russia is a favourite song when anything happens because the liberal media is for the most part, for financial reasons, scared to death to discuss the possibility that it could be China (and it could be!)”,  – said the US leader.
