Moldova’s incumbent President Igor Dodon said in his weekly video blog that the farmers’ protests are not economic, but political demands
“Those who a fortnight ago were breaking microphones in the building of the Parliament – PDS and PPD MPs – now drove tractors on the steps of the legislative body”, – stressed the President of Moldova.
He noted that the protests have not only economic but also political demands. Initially, the agrarians insisted that the legislation be changed. Their demands have been met: the VAT rate on agricultural products will not change and the industry will be allocated additional funds.
However, now the farmers demand the resignation of the government and early parliamentary elections. According to the acting head of Moldova, “farmers should not be interested in the resignation of the government”.
“This allows me to confirm once again that the leaders of Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase’s parties are behind this protest”, – Dodon said.
The Moldovan leader also drew attention to the fact that the state budget law cannot be changed if the government resigns. He urged farmers to “put politics aside”.
“Soon, in a few months, in six months, when the new president will not listen to you and will not give you additional subsidies, you will remember my words, remember how we helped you this year for the first time in 29 years. Everything is learned by comparison”, – concluded Igor Dodon.
