Chinese Foreign Ministry says next year will have special significance for China-Russia relations

The countries will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin

Next year will be a special year for bilateral relations between China and Russia as the two sides mark the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said this on Friday.

“Next year will be of special significance for our countries. We will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Good Neighbourhood, Friendship and Cooperation”, –  he said in response to a request by journalists to comment on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s words that Moscow and Beijing’s interests coincide in many areas. – “Under the strategic leadership of the two countries’ leaders, the two sides will continue on the path of rapid development of bilateral relations, <…> play a constructive role in global governance in the post-pandemic era”, –  the diplomat pointed out.

Wang Wenbin said, “Despite the year 2020 being marked by pandemic and change, China and Russia have coped with a lot of challenges together.” “The two leaders kept in touch by phone, participated in a large number of multilateral video conferences and promoted comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership in the new era,” he stressed.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry official also noted that China remains Russia’s largest trading partner. According to him, the countries have implemented a large number of projects within the framework of the Year of China-Russia Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation this year, and the sides are working together to protect the memory of the victory in World War II and support each other in the fight against stigmatization.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin described his relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping at his annual press conference as businesslike and trusting. He also noted that Moscow and Beijing have common interests on many fronts.
