Putin told when the Russian peacekeepers will leave Transnistria

Russia does not object to the winding down of the peacekeeping mission on the left bank of the Dniester.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin made such a statement at an annual press conference, commenting on the words of the President-elect of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

As previously reported by News Front, Sandu said immediately after winning the elections that she was in favor of the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent on the territory of Transnistria. According to her, an international mission of civilian observers should operate in the region.

“We have long heard from representatives of various Western countries that we need to withdraw our peacekeeping contingent”, – Putin said.

“Maia Sandu is the President of Moldova, but at the same time she is a citizen of Romania. We heard representatives of Western countries about the need to withdraw the contingent. And on the whole, we are in favor of removing it as soon as the appropriate situation is ripe”.

However, first, a normal dialogue should be built between Chisinau and Tiraspol, aimed at resolving the Transnistrian issue, concluded the President of the Russian Federation.
