Protesting Moldovan farmers threaten to take drastic measures

The protesters in Chisinau say that tomorrow the protest will no longer be peaceful if the authorities do not provide farmers with compensation for losses due to drought.

This ultimatum was made by one of the organizers of the farmers’ protests, Sergei Shtefanko.

“The groundless increase in the tax on agricultural products has been canceled”, – he said.

“Now we have given them 24 hours to clarify when and how we will receive 3 thousand lei [175 dollars] for corn and sunflower”.

Earlier, the Moldovan parliament has already adopted decisions that satisfied part of the farmers’ demands regarding tax policy and compensation for losses.
