Nord Stream-2 is economically beneficial for Europe – Putin

The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is more profitable for Germany, including the whole of Europe, than liquefied natural gas from the United States. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the annual press conference.

“This is beneficial for the economy in general and Germany in particular. Another option is to buy a more expensive primary energy carrier – American liquefied gas at a price 20% higher than our pipeline gas. What this means is a decrease in the competitiveness of the German economy and an increase in prices for households. These are obvious things. You don’t need to be a gas worker or an economist here. This corresponds to the national interests of Europe and Germany”, – Putin said.

The Russian President expressed the hope that the new US administration, headed by President-elect Joe Biden, will respect the interests of Europe, which is taking part in the construction of the Russian gas pipeline.

“I hope that the new [US] administration will respect its partners, allies with respect, and will not insist that they neglect their national interests, and will return to the regime of fair competition in international markets”, – the head of Russia stressed.

Also, Vladimir Putin stressed that the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline will definitely be completed. Construction work in German waters resumed on December 11 after an almost year-long shutdown.
