MEPs demanded to respond to the actions of the Ukrainian authorities against the Hungarians

The deputies sent a letter to the Vice-President of the European Commission, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, demanding to respond to the actions of the Ukrainian authorities against the Hungarians of Transcarpathia.

“On November 30, coordinated actions were taken by the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies against Hungarian organizations in Ukraine. Dozens of armed special forces from the Security Service of Ukraine invaded the apartment of Laszlo Brenzovich, president of the Hungarian Cultural Association of Transcarpathia and a former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, as well as the offices of Hungarian party and charitable foundations to conduct searches. The search warrant was based on trumped-up political charges that violated the rights of the Hungarian minority. The purpose of this security operation was to put an end to the activities of the Hungarian minority and to intimidate the Hungarians in Ukraine and their leaders”, – the letter says.

MEPs demand to take measures to prevent such frightening actions in the future and not to hush up these cases “threatening the existence of a national minority”.
