On Wednesday, the Sakharov Prize “For Freedom of Thought” was presented in Brussels. The award in the amount of 50 thousand euros went to the “main housewife of Belarus” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
European Parliament President David Sassoli presented the award to Svetlana Tikhanovskaya at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday 16 December. The laureate of the award was named “the democratic opposition in Belarus, which is represented by the Coordination Council”.
The Freedom of Thought Prize was established by the European Parliament in 1988 in honor of the Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov. It is awarded to individuals who have made “exceptional contributions to the struggle for human rights around the globe”.
It remains only to guess what relation to the award “For Freedom of Thought” has the publicized Tikhanovskaya, who continues to call the inhabitants of Minsk to illegal actions.
