The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons remains the only sure path to nuclear disarmament.
According to TASS, a statement by the North Atlantic Alliance circulated in Brussels on Tuesday says that NATO member states do not agree with the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, since, in the Alliance’s opinion, it contradicts the existing architecture of disarmament.
“We reaffirm our commitment to maintaining and strengthening arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation. As the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, or the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, approaches entry into force, we collectively declare our disagreement with it, as it does not reflect the increasingly complex international security environment and contradicts the existing architecture of non-proliferation and disarmament”, – the document notes.
