The decision by the country’s highest court to dismiss the lawsuit on the grounds that Texas failed to justify legally its interest in the way other states conduct elections, the US leader called absurd. “They just ‘chickened out’ and didn’t want to rule on the merits of the case. So bad for our country!” – The Republican wrote.
He once again accused his fellow party members in power in various states of “allowing the Democrats to cheat so blatantly by trying to steal the results of an election that [Trump] won by a wide margin”. The president again criticised the postal vote.
On Friday, the US Supreme Court rejected a Trump-backed lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton asking for the invalidation of election results in Georgia (16 electoral college seats), Michigan (16), Pennsylvania (20) and Wisconsin (10). According to the plaintiff, these swing states, for which there was a fierce battle between Trump and Democrat Joseph Biden, did not comply with the rules regarding the processing of ballot papers, including those sent by post. As such, the election results in these states, according to the Republican attorney general of Texas, should be declared invalid. In fact, it was an attempt to challenge more than 60 electoral college seats, which would have called into question Biden’s victory.
