The self-appointed “leader of the Belarusian nation” reports with “deep regret” that there is no use of the West’s help and there are no prospects of “overthrowing” Lukashenko
According to Ukraina.ru, in a recent interview with The New Yorker magazine, the unsuccessful president of Belarus said that, in fact, Europe is only able to express concern, but is unable to apply real pressure on Minsk.
“When I was a common person, I thought that Europe was so close and so big and its leaders so strong that they would definitely do something, would not sit idly by. Now I understand that although they expressed their concern, their solidarity, they cannot actually do anything”, – Tikhanovskaya said bitterly.
She also recalled the infamous European sanctions, which remained just rhetoric and were not implemented in reality.
“European leaders act cautiously, always with an eye on Russia. For us it hurts… I grew up in a family where we were taught to be grateful. So this could be my mistake. Gradually I am coming to realise that I should not be thankful just for statements of concern, we should demand concrete action. I am learning, but very slowly”, – Tihanovskaya shared her epiphany.
