In addition, the White House National Security Council said that the US government was taking all necessary steps to identify and address any possible problems with the situation
“We can confirm the hacking [of the computer network] of one of our offices. We have asked CISA and the FBI to investigate, we cannot comment on it [progress] at this time”, – the ministry’s press office told TASS when asked to confirm information that foreign-backed hackers had stolen data from the Treasury and the office under the US Department of Commerce.
The Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Assurance Agency (CISA) told the TASS correspondent of an inter-agency effort on “recently detected activity on government [computer] networks”. “CISA is providing technical assistance to affected organisations as they work to identify and address any potential unauthorised access to data by unauthorised individuals”, – the agency, which is part of the US Department of Homeland Security, pointed out.
In turn, the White House National Security Council (NSC) spokesman John Elliott told TASS that “the United States government is aware of these reports [of hacking] and is taking all necessary steps to identify and eliminate any possible problems associated with this situation”. The US Department of the Treasury has not yet responded to TASS’s request in this regard.
