Number of NATO spy planes near Russia’s borders increased by 40% in 2020

In total, the Radio-Technical Forces (RTF) have detected and escorted more than two million airborne objects in 2020, according to the Ministry of Defense

According to RIA FAN, the Russian Defence Ministry said that the Radio Technical Forces (RTF) detected 40% more foreign reconnaissance aircraft near Russia’s borders in 2020 than in 2019.

“The Radio-Technical Forces detected over a thousand foreign spy planes flying near Russia’s borders in 2020. This is about 40% more than last year”,  –  the military ministry quoted RIA Novosti as saying.

The radio-technical troops are intended for reconnaissance of aerospace attack means by means of radar stations. They provide the command of the Russian Armed Forces and control points of electronic warfare, anti-aircraft missile forces and aviation with information on the air situation.
