FBI covers up harassment scandals involving high-ranking officers – AP

An investigation by the Associated Press international news agency has uncovered six allegations of sexual harassment by high-ranking FBI officers

The agency has revealed that each of the accused FBI officials escaped disciplinary action and criminal prosecution, and the agency chose to keep everything secret from the public.

“Some agents were quietly reassigned to other departments and cities or fired, while retaining their pensions and benefits in full, even as investigations confirmed allegations of sexual harassment against them”, –  the AP noted.

Under U.S. law, federal law enforcement officials are granted complete anonymity even after an internal investigation is concluded. Data about the investigation cannot be released to the media or public organisations. However, repeated misconduct year after year has drawn the attention of Congress, leading to the release of disciplinary cases handled by the FBI.
