Chinese intelligence agencies detain Bloomberg employee

Hayes Fan has been detained on suspicion of endangering national security

According to Bloomberg, Chinese national Heiz Fan was seen being escorted out of her home by plainclothes security personnel. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Heiz Fan was detained by the Beijing National Security Bureau “in accordance with Chinese law and on suspicion of engaging in criminal activities that threaten national security.” Law enforcement authorities are currently conducting investigative measures, the Foreign Ministry said.

The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, reported that Fan’s detention was not related to her professional activities.
It should be noted that Bloomberg is not the only Western publication where Hayes Fan worked. She has also worked for Reuters, CNBC and CBS News.
