People blocked central streets of the city
Residents of Poland came out on Sunday for a massive anti-government demonstration organised by the women’s protest movement. They oppose the politics of the ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS).
Among those taking part in the demonstration are representatives of the Union of Entrepreneurs of Poland, who are dissatisfied with the authorities’ policy of countering the spread of the coronavirus, due to which many sectors of the economy have suffered. Several thousand people came to the protest with Polish flags and banners. “We’ve had enough!”, “Freedom and equality”, “My choice is not a sin”, “You are destroying firms”, “We have the right to protest”, “I am for choice” read the texts on the posters.
“PiS is waging a war against the whole world: against women, young people, teachers, doctors, entrepreneurs, public sector workers and against Europe. Without declaring a state of emergency we actually have martial law. They are ignoring society. They are lining their pockets. They are beating people in the streets”, – Facebook organizers pointed out, stressing that their goal is to fight for freedom.
The protesters are also displeased with the actions of police officers at the protests in recent weeks. Law enforcers have repeatedly used tear gas and detained protesters.
