US sanctions against Nord Stream 2 upset Berlin

In the opinion of German politicians, the right of sovereign states to independently determine their energy policy should not be questioned.

According to Ekonomika Segodnya, the head of the Bundestag Committee on Economics and Energy Klaus Ernst reminded Washington of the norms of international law and the guarantee of successful international cooperation.

“The US call to freeze the construction of Nord Stream-2 disappointed German officials”, – Ernst said, noting that the US is trying to protect Europeans from what they do not consider a threat.

Earlier, political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov said that US sanctions would not interfere with the construction of Nord Stream-2, as Europe needs it too much.
