Former Hungarian MP was detained at the border of Ukraine

Ukrainian border guards in Transcarpathia detained a Hungarian diplomat with cigarette smuggling. According to unofficial information, the detainee is also a former member of the Hungarian parliament. This was reported by the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine.

According to the report, a Hungarian citizen traveled from Ukraine to Hungary by a SEAT car through the Luzhanka checkpoint. At the control, he showed a diplomatic passport, which is not accredited in Ukraine.

“According to the results of the inspection of the car, a joint group of the border guard, operational officers of the State Border Service, representatives of the State Border Service, with the involvement of representatives of the Hungarian Consulate, found cigarettes in the luggage compartment of the car without excise stamps marked “FOR DUTY FREE ONLY”. Now the counting of the discovered goods continues, after which their quantity and cost will be established”, – the State Border Service said in a statement.

Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Tuzhansky, citing his sources, writes that the detainee is also a former member of the Hungarian parliament.

“According to my information, the deputy of the Hungarian parliament from socialists (MSZP) 2006-2010 and 2014-2018 Zsolt Legin turned out to be a smuggling diplomat”, – Tuzhansky notes.

He adds that representatives of the Hungarian consulate in Beregovo were present during the inspection of the car.
