At a plenary session, the Azerbaijani parliament approved the decree of President Ilham Aliyev “On the abolition of martial law”, Sputnik Azerbaijan reports.
“Martial law has been canceled in Azerbaijan from 12:00 am on December 12 – the decision of the country’s parliament”, – the agency reports on its Telegram channel.
It is noted that along with the martial law in Azerbaijan, the curfew is also canceled.
Martial law on the territory of Azerbaijan was introduced on September 28, 2020 in accordance with a decree signed on September 27 by President Ilham Aliyev.
At the end of September, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh heated up, the ministries of defense of Azerbaijan and Armenia exchanged accusations about the shelling of the territory. Martial law was introduced in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
On November 10, the Kremlin press service issued a joint statement by the presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia on a ceasefire in Karabakh from the same day. Azerbaijan and Armenia undertake to stop hostilities, stop at occupied positions and exchange prisoners of war. Yerevan must return the Kelbajar, Lachin and Aghdam regions to Baku.
In addition, 1,960 Russian peacekeepers, 90 armored personnel carriers, 380 pieces of equipment are being brought into the region. They are located in Karabakh and the Lachin corridor.
