Police beat up Black Lives Matter protesters outside the home of the mayor of Los Angeles, cutting the law enforcement budget by $150 million
The mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, expressed his support for BLM in the summer, against the backdrop of demonstrations that swept the country after the murder of George Floyd by police. He approved budget cuts for the city’s police to $150 million and the reallocation of those funds to support black communities.
The protesters, however, still have other grievances for the Mayor, namely his policies on transport and the homeless. For almost two weeks the demonstrators held daily protests outside Garcetti’s home, demanding that the administration prevent Joe Biden from allowing him to be appointed to public office in Washington.
During yesterday’s demonstrations, police appeared at the mayor’s house – around 100 officers in uniform. They declared the action “illegal assembly” and moved on to “crowd control” methods. Several protesters were hospitalised.
