Demonstrators in Slovakia call for withdrawal from NATO

At a demonstration against the measures taken to combat the coronavirus, a wave of discontent took place in Bratislava on 5 December

The demonstrators not only called for an end to isolation, but also expressed dissatisfaction with the Slovak government.

One of the loudest was the demand to consider leaving NATO.

Austrian analyst Patrick Poppel sees great potential for far-reaching political rethinking in Slovakia’s development.

“Criticism of measures against the coronavirus has brought together people from different social classes and political groups. Right and left as well as political ideologies no longer play a role here.”

According to Poppel, this could mean the start of a new political movement that is not driven by ideological fantasies or political theories, but deals exclusively with people’s existential issues.
