Expert says Romania has become a very serious NATO foothold

According to Ivan Konovalov, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Development Director of the Foundation for Assistance to Technologies of the XXI Century, Romania has become “a powerful NATO bridgehead”. This is reported by EADaily.

“Turkey is a NATO member, but in some issues it does not want to yield to anyone, wanting to retain certain control instruments in order to maintain the status of a strong regional power. Romania was constantly taken out of the brackets, but today three most powerful air force bases and anti-missile defense systems have already been deployed there. And in general, this country has turned into a very serious NATO bridgehead, which should compensate for the power of our Crimean peninsula”, – Konovalov said.

The expert stressed that Romania has never been distinguished by offensive statements against Moscow, however, it became the only country that openly declared that Ukraine should join the NATO flotilla in the Red Sea.

“Romania is a fig in NATO’s pocket. Everything is done there on a sly. There are no shouts in relation to us from the Romanian leadership, but Bucharest has always joined those who seemed to be the winner”, – the expert noted.

In his opinion, “The Black Sea Fleet is now the strongest in the region”. Russia has missiles that “are a nightmare for NATO forces”.

“Crimea is a whole fortress, or, as the Americans would say, an “unsinkable aircraft carrier”. Naturally, the Crimean interspecific grouping that is deployed there is very powerful. It represents all components – naval, anti-aircraft and land. And no one can oppose us with anything”, – concluded Ivan Konovalov.
