All statements by Ukrainian politicians that they promise to accept Ukraine into the Alliance are PR and nothing more.
According to Glavred, a military expert, reserve colonel Oleg Zhdanov is convinced that Ukraine is important for NATO countries as a buffer zone, but not as a member of the Alliance.
“If we are now admitted to NATO, tomorrow the United States will have to fight with us against Russia, because Article 5 of the NATO Charter says that “one for all and all for one”. It turns out that tomorrow, American troops will have to take up defensive positions on the contact line in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. NATO and the United States cannot allow this”, – Zhdanov said.
In his opinion, all the words about joining NATO are nothing more than PR.
“Today the president and his team have a very difficult situation, and they need to show some results. The year ends, December 9 – the deadline for the Paris agreements, and we need some kind of result, some kind of positive dynamics. The topic of roads has become boring for everyone, and “Great Budivnistvo” no longer impresses anyone, especially against the background of the coronavirus. That is why they tell us that we will be admitted to NATO even tomorrow, without preparation for membership… Although in reality everything is not in such a way…”, – explained the reserve colonel.
