Representatives of Moldovan civil society organizations believe that the experience of those countries where the president has only one citizenship of his country is correct. This is reported by the Moldovan media.
According to representatives of civil society, Moldova’s policy should be carried out in a “constructive manner, focused on promoting our national interests”.
“Taking into account the fact that the President of the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with constitutional powers, is the supreme commander of the armed forces and coordinates foreign policy, he should be guided exclusively by the satisfaction of our country’s interests in these areas”, – the representatives said in a statement.
They are confident that “taking the oath of another state, a person with public dignity cannot honor both and must observe his oath in front of his own people”.
“We ask Ms. Maia Sandu, President-elect of the Republic of Moldova, by virtue of the above, to immediately and publicly renounce the citizenship of other states and be guided in her activities exclusively by the interests of the Moldovan people”, – the civil society believes.
