Russia hopes that the United States will begin to reckon with the interests of other countries

Moscow has the right to count on the fact that with the arrival of the new administration, Washington will begin to reckon with the legitimate interests of other international players, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Kazinform international news agency.

“As President Vladimir Putin said: “We are analyzing all this calmly in a working order, we will accept any decision of the American people and will work with any administration”. Naturally, only based on the principles of honesty, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs. From this point of view, we have the right to expect that Washington will finally begin to reckon with the legitimate interests of other international players, including Russia and Kazakhstan, and their integration associations”, – Lavrov said.

At the same time, the minister stressed that it is premature to discuss the consequences of the US elections for international relations before the official results are announced.

“This is our principled position. Naturally, we are closely following what is happening on the other side of the Atlantic, we are ready for any development of events. Forecasts by themselves, and even more so at this stage, are not a very fertile idea. Nevertheless, if judging by the statements and statements of Joe Biden, one can assume that the US foreign policy, if he wins, will correspond more to the canons that Barack Obama was promoting at one time”, – he said.

The US presidential election was held on November 3. Biden, according to preliminary data, has recruited up to 306 electors from the states against the required 270. The incumbent President Donald Trump does not admit defeat and is challenging it in the courts of several states.
