Turkey condemns the murder of nuclear physicist Mohsen Fahrizade in Iran and condoles to the family of the victim. This was announced in a statement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.
“We regret the death of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizade as a result of an armed attack in Tehran. We condemn this monstrous murder and offer our condolences to the Government of Iran and the family of the deceased”, – the statement says.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also calls on all parties to refrain from any action that could escalate tensions in the region and hopes that the perpetrators of the attack will face justice.
On Friday, Fars reported an assassination attempt on a physics scientist near the city of Damovend in Tehran province. The Ministry of Defence later confirmed that Fakhrizade was injured and died in hospital. Iranian President Hassan Rowhani said on Saturday that the murder will not go unanswered.
