He answered a question about whether Georgia and Ukraine had a chance to become NATO members in the near future. According to Gobl, this is possible due to the agreement signed between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan and the introduction of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh.
“They are more likely to become members of alliances (international organizations) with Biden, not only because of the difference between Biden and Trump, whose views differ on the importance of these alliances, but also because Russia has returned its soldiers to the South Caucasus, which makes a response from the Western powers more necessary”, – said the politician.
He also said that the victory in the Moldovan elections by Maya Sandu facilitates NATO’s expansion.
“There are officials in the Biden administration who believe that deterring countries from joining alliances is one of the best ways to get rid of Soviet oppression and to move towards democracy”, – Goble said.
He added that the Biden administration will continue to insist that the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia will not be recognized, and that the Crimea will not be recognized by Russia.
