The UN calls for restraint in the Middle East after the killing of an Iranian nuclear scientist

Fars has previously reported the murder of a physics scientist in the Damowend district of Tehran province

The UN calls for restraint in the Middle East region following the assassination on Friday of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fahrizade, head of the research centre at the Iranian Ministry of Defence. Deputy UN spokesman Farhan Haq told journalists this.

“We have taken note of reports that an Iranian nuclear scientist was killed on friday near Tehran. We call for restraint and the need to avoid any action that could escalate tensions in the region”, –  said Haq.

Earlier Friday, Fars reported an assassination attempt on a physics scientist in the Damowend district of Tehran province. The country’s Ministry of Defence later confirmed that Fakhrizade was wounded and died in hospital. ISNA was informed that Seyyed Abdol-Rahim Musawi, Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army, claimed involvement in the killing of Israel and the United States.
