The German Foreign Minister said that it is important to maintain the existing space for negotiations in order to resolve the conflict over Iran’s nuclear programme through negotiations
Germany, following the assassination of nuclear physicist Mohsen Fahrizade in Iran, calls on all parties to reject any steps that would aggravate the situation in the region. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in a comment for the Funke media group published on Saturday.
“We are extremely concerned about reports from Iran about the murder of Mohsen Fakhrizade. We still do not have our own information about the incident”, – Maas said. – “Yet it is already clear that the murder of Mohsen Fahrizade is again aggravating the situation in the region – at a time when we do not need such an escalation at all”, – said the minister.
According to the German Foreign Minister, “a few weeks before the new US administration comes to power, it is important to maintain the space available for negotiations with Iran so that the conflict over Iran’s nuclear programme can be resolved through negotiations. “We therefore urge all parties to abandon steps that would further escalate the situation,” concluded Maas.
On Friday, the Fars agency reported an assassination attempt on a physics scientist in the Damowend area of Tehran province. The Ministry of Defence later confirmed that Fakhrizade was wounded and died in hospital. ISNA was informed that the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army, Seyed Abdol-Rahim Musawi, claimed involvement in the assassination of Israel and the USA.
