In India, the police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse a demonstration of farmers travelling from different regions to the capital city of New Delhi to protest the new agricultural laws.
Thousands of protesters trying to break through to the Indian capital are armed with sticks and knives. They clash with the police, throw stones at them and destroy the fences that block the road to the city. Law enforcement officials are trying to stop the protesters. On the border between Haryana State and the Delhi metropolitan area, police are reported to have used water cannons and tear gas against the protesters. Through loudspeakers, the police are reporting that all rallies and mass gatherings are prohibited in Delhi due to the spread of the coronavirus.
However, many farmers are trying to break through to the capital with tractors. At the Sindhu checkpoint in Delhi, hundreds of protesters have staged a sit-in protest.
