British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering a reshuffle in the government that could affect the current Foreign Minister, Dominique Raab, among others. The Financial Times reported this on Friday, citing sources at 10 Downing Street.
According to them, one of the main candidates for the post of Foreign Minister is former Finance Minister Sajid David, who left the government in February this year amid a confrontation with former Johnson Chief Adviser Dominic Cummings, who left his post on November 13. In this scenario, Raab himself could take over as Minister for Special Assignments, Duchy Chancellor Michael Gove of Lancaster. The latter, in turn, may receive the minister’s portfolio to replace Matt Hancock.
In addition, Anne-Marie Trevelian, previously head of the Ministry for International Development, which was abolished in 2020, may also join the new government. According to the newspaper, the reshuffle may take place early next year or after the local government elections in the UK in May.
Johnson is trying to rethink the whole party course after Cummings, who was considered to be the “architect of Brexit”, said the paper. Promotions are expected to come from politicians who have long worked with Johnson, including Deputy Foreign Minister James Cleverly, who has worked closely with the incumbent Prime Minister since he was mayor of London.
