Poland and Hungary predict the collapse of the European Union

Countries opposed a budget clause in which funding for EU member states would depend on respect for the rule of law.

The heads of government of Poland and Hungary, Mateusz Morawiecki and Viktor Orban, said during a press conference in Budapest that such funding conditions could lead to the collapse of the European Union.

“Today we are facing a new challenge – a completely new mechanism, which […] is a politically motivated decision and can lead to division, and possibly to the collapse of the EU” , -said Morawiecki.

The head of the Polish government stressed that the order on the rule of law does not really concern the budget, but “other issues that are not related to it”.
