Kang Gyeong-hwa said that Seoul will continue its efforts to eliminate the threat of war and denuclearize the peninsula
Peace on the Korean Peninsula is key to the prosperity of all Eurasia.
This was announced by South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Gyeong-hwa on Wednesday, speaking at the 13th Republic of Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum in Seoul, Yonhap news agency reported.
The Foreign Minister called on participants to support the desire of Seoul to establish a dialogue with the DPRK and establish lasting peace in the region.
“Peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula is also the path to peace and common prosperity throughout the Eurasian continent”, – said Kang Gyeong-hwa.
The Minister noted that despite the stalled negotiations with the DPRK, Seoul will “resolutely continue its efforts to eliminate the threat of war and denuclearise the peninsula. “Despite all the difficulties, we cannot allow the agreements reached at the inter-Korean summit and summit meetings between the leaders of the DPRK and the US to be abandoned. We must not stop trying to resume the dialogue with the North,” added Kang Gyeong-hwa.
The forum is attended by senior representatives of Central Asian countries, including leading diplomats from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan. According to Yonhap, during the meeting the parties discuss cooperation in combating the coronavirus pandemic and strengthening economic cooperation.
