Expert told what new President of Moldova has prepared for Russia

Maia Sandu pursued selfish goals when, for the first time in many years, she addressed voters in Russian.

As previously reported by News Front, according to the results of the presidential elections in Moldova, the leader of the pro-Western Action and Solidarity party, Maia Sandu, won. In the second round of voting, she won 57.75% of the vote. The support of the incumbent President Igor Dodon was 42.25%.

Sandu’s leadership was ensured by the diaspora living in Western countries. In Moldova itself, support for the ex-prime minister with obvious anti-Russian ideas was weak. And given the fact that at least a quarter of the republic’s population speaks Russian, Sandu also had to remember this language for the first time in 5 years.

“I am sure that during the election campaign, Sandu’s assistants and experts gave advice that in order to attract at least part of the votes of Russian-speaking voters, she needed not only to speak Russian with them, but also to promise the development of relations with Russia”, – the political expert Valentin Krylov in comments to the Sputnik agency.

According to him, in this way Sandu tried to calm down the pro-Russian electorate. Despite this, the effect was insignificant, because only a small proportion of such citizens supported an openly pro-Western candidate in the elections.

“At the moment, the question is, when the election results are recognized by the court and Sandu takes office, what line will she start to pursue. I am sure that we will face a cooling of relations with Russia”, – the analyst said.

He also did not rule out that Sandu would provoke tensions in relations with the Moldovan autonomy of Gagauzia.
