USA “bought” the judicial system of Moldova

The judicial system of the Republic of Moldova received assistance from the USA in the amount of $7.5 million, officially for “the introduction of a number of modern IT solutions and strengthening of the institutional capacity in the justice sector”.

According to noi.md, “generous support” was provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Transparent Justice Program, and the progress made was presented on Thursday, November 19, at an online closing event.

“The USAID Transparent Justice Program was implemented in Moldova from May 2017 to November 2020. Its main goal was to support the Government of the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to modernize, ensure transparency and empower the judicial system by providing the necessary technical and methodological assistance”, – the statement reads.

The program provides methodological assistance to improve the selection, appointment, promotion and accountability of judges, supporting the implementation of the International Judicial Evaluation System in all four appellate instances.

Thus, the United States actually brought the entire judicial system of Moldova under its control.
