A group of senators demanded that the Pentagon’s proposed sale of fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of over $23 billion be cancelled
This was reported by the Al-Arabia TV channel.
Democrats Chris Murphy and Bob Menendez, together with Republican Rand Paul, presented resolutions rejecting the arms deal, arguing that they “rejected an attempt by the Donald Trump administration to set a precedent-setting aircraft and many other weapons systems in the UAE.”
The contract proposed by the Pentagon includes the delivery of MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance drones, F-35 fighter-bombers and U.S. air-to-air missiles to the UAE.
Members of the Upper House of Congress who introduced the resolution accuse the Donald Trump administration of trying to bypass the “informal verification process” in the legislature.
