The US introduced sanctions against a number of Iranian politicians

The United States increased anti-Iranian sanctions, with the Fund for the Underprivileged being blacklisted

Washington has extended anti-Iranian sanctions to include the head of the Islamic Republic’s intelligence agency in the blacklist.

Punitive measures were introduced on the pretext of human rights violations during last year’s mass anti-government protests in Iran.

In particular, Iranian Minister of Intelligence Mahmoud Alawi was subject to American sanctions. The official is accused of using his ministerial post “to suppress protests” in November 2019.

Restrictions have also affected the Bonyad Mostazafan Foundation [Fund for the Underprivileged], which is associated with the Iranian spiritual leader Ali Khamenei.

“The Supreme Leader of Iran uses Bonyad Mostazafan to reward his allies under the pretext of charity. The United States will continue to pursue key Iranian officials and their sources of income that allow the regime to continue its repression of its own people”, –  said U.S. Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin.
