According to the agency, the administration in Washington is not considering either a time frame or a working agenda for a possible event
US President Donald Trump is not planning a face-to-face summit of the Group of Seven (G7) heads of state this year after the June meeting was cancelled due to a new coronavirus pandemic. This was reported by Reuters on Wednesday, citing its sources.
According to their sources, the American leader has yet to make a final decision on holding the summit, while not much time remains until the end of the year. According to the agency, the Washington administration is not considering either the timing or the working agenda for a possible G7 summit this year. However, Reuters does allow the possibility of holding the summit remotely via video link. However, according to the agency’s sources, the U.S. authorities are not working on a joint statement. This process usually takes several months.
Next year, the UK will take over the presidency of G7 from the USA.
In August Trump said that he would certainly invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G7 summit. The American leader also stressed that he is considering holding a G7 summit after the November general elections in the USA.
Trump had previously announced plans to postpone the G7 Summit from late June to September and that he would like to invite Russia, Australia, India and the Republic of Korea to the meeting.
