According to Foreign Secretary Wang Yi, the deterioration in relations between the two countries was solely due to the “Cold War thinking” of US politicians
The Chinese authorities consider the policy of increasing pressure on China by the US Presidential Administration, Donald Trump, to be unproductive and useless and hope for improvement and a change in Washington’s strategy towards Beijing. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this in an interview with the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat on Thursday.
“Such one-sided hegemonic thinking [of the White House head and his entourage] runs counter to the fundamental principles of international relations”, – the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website quotes an extract from the interview. – “These measures have proved unpopular, and they have no future. We hope that the United States will again begin to make a rational assessment of the situation, will seek cooperation with China, and will take an objective and fair position with regard to Beijing as well as other emerging economies.”
According to Wang Yi, the deterioration of Sino-US relations in recent years has been solely due to the “Cold War thinking” of US policymakers.
