The head of the Russian Institute of Globalization Problems Mikhail Delyagin believes that the new President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who won the second round of voting, is needed by the West in order to blackmail Russia through pressure on Transnistria.
Delyagin noted that the so-called “reintegration scheme” involves financing from partners, which Chisinau will seek. According to the political scientist, the Moldovan authorities will artificially provoke the situation, escalating the situation, and artificially delaying the final political settlement of this 30-year frozen conflict.
“Transnistria is the only thing the West needs Moldova for. This is a place with which you can bite Russia, infringe on Russia and demonstrate Russia’s incapacity – by provoking a conflict with Transnistria. For the Moldovan leadership, this is the only way to get money. Therefore, Sandu can get the only live money from Russia. Until she breaks off relations with Russia, she will hold early parliamentary elections and sharply reduce the faction of Igor Dodon (PSRM). And then it starts. She will blackmail us with Transnistria – the only source of money”, – concludes Mikhail Delyagin.
