Expert: Sandu has no leverage without parliament and government

In Moldova, without early parliamentary elections, there will be no “political project of Maya Sandu”, political analyst Dan Dungachu said. From the point of view of the implementation of the European project, the new head of state is a “commander without an army”, so Sandu needs to improve relations with parliament and government.

According to Dungachu, in reality, Maia Sandu does not yet have any special levers of power, including at the foreign policy level.

“In this context, regardless of the leaders of which countries she will talk to and where she goes on a visit, these states. will look at the internal political situation on the basis of the principle: whoever we give money to, we support”, – Dungachu says.

As a solution to the situation, the political analyst admits that the leader of the pro-European Action and Solidarity Party represented in parliament could create a pro-European majority already in the current convocation of the country’s legislative body. The PDS has the support of several factions, and their opponents, the Party of Socialists, have lost the advantage after the Democratic Party left the coalition with them last week. At the same time, the current deputy corps has long ceased to be representative, so it needs to be rebooted.
