One of them will be the downgrade to the expert level of participation in the Eastern Partnership.
According to TASS, after a meeting with President Alexander Lukashenko on foreign policy, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei told the reporters that Belarus is ready to take retaliatory measures in the event of expansion of sanctions by the European Union.
“Be sure that these initiatives, if adopted by our European partners, will not go unanswered. The reaction will be really adequate and very sensitive for our European partners”, – Makei said.
According to BelTA, one of the responses to the unfriendly actions of the EU will be to lower participation in the Eastern Partnership initiative to an expert level.
“Of course, we cannot leave this kind of thing unanswered. From our side, the corresponding sanctions lists have also been expanded to include relevant persons from all countries of the European Union. We proposed to suspend the work of the Belarus-European Union coordination group, within which various issues of our interaction were discussed”, – the minister explained.
“At the meeting, the idea of lowering the level of our representation in the Eastern Partnership was proposed and supported by the meeting participants. We see that there are attempts to politicize a number of infrastructure, interregional projects within the framework of this initiative. Therefore, it was decided to lower the level of participation of Belarus in this initiative to an expert one”.
