Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moualem died.

He was 79 years old

Walid Muallem, Syria’s foreign policy chief, passed away at the age of 79. This was reported by the SANA news agency on Monday.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants is mourning the death of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Waleed Mouallem”, –  the text said.

The cause of death is not disclosed.

Walid Mouallem has worked for the Syrian Foreign Ministry since 1964. He has served in Syrian diplomatic missions in Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, Spain and the UK. He has served as Syrian Ambassador to Romania and the USA at various times. He has been working as Head of the Department of Politics since 2006.
