State Department intends to control the Moldovan elections in “manual mode”

The second round of the presidential elections in Moldova will take place with the direct intervention of the US Embassy.

According to the press service of the American diplomatic mission, in this way the State Department intends to monitor the compliance of the electoral process with international standards. US Ambassador Derek Hogan and his subordinates will personally participate in the procedure.

For Western elites, these elections are especially important. They are persistently promoting their protégé Maia Sandu to the presidency of Moldova.

The expert community is confident that Sandu’s defeat will turn into a putsch according to the Belarusian scenario. The countries of Europe and the United States may refuse to recognize the victory of Igor Dodon, whom they do not like, since before the first round Sandu had already accused the authorities of preparing falsifications without proof.

Protest actions are inevitable, whoever wins, said Sergei Manastyrly, head of the Balkan-center for analysis, research and forecasts. However, if Dodon’s supporters can do little to change, Sandu’s defeat could well lead to a full-scale putsch, as Western elites will be interested in this.

“The speeches of Dodon’s supporters are unlikely to change anything. On the other hand, employees and heads of foreign embassies can join the protests of the pro-Western opposition. This will bring the situation to a hot phase”, – the expert stated.
